Make it rain indoors! A perfect science experiment for kids on a rainy day, rainbow rain is messy and lots of fun. Scientists still do not fully understand how rain happens. One theory is that the water builds up in clouds and attaches to dust molecules or bacteria particles in the clouds and to form the droplets that fall to the earth.
This experiment uses shaving cream for clouds, water for air and food dye for the water droplets. Put down a towel to protect your kitchen counter and let the fun begin!
What you need:
- white shaving cream
- clear glass bowl or large cup
- food dye
What you do:
- Fill the bowl about 2/3 with water.
- Add the shaving cream clouds on top.
- Sprinkle food coloring on top of the shaving cream.
The food coloring works its way through the shaving cream to create beautiful rainbow rain in the water!
