Do elephants brush their teeth? If they do, this foaming mixture may be just what the dentist ordered! Fun, safe and wondrous, this experiment can be messy, so try it on a surface that is easily washable.
What you need:
16 oz empty plastic soda bottle
1/2 cup 20-volume hydrogen peroxide (can be found at beauty supply stores)
Squirt of Dawn dish detergent
3-4 drops of food coloring
1 teaspoon yeast dissolved in approximately 2 tablespoons very warm water
What you do:
Common Sense Warning – Hydrogen peroxide can irritate skin and eyes, so let adults pour it and wear safety glasses.
Pour hydrogen peroxide into plastic bottle.
Add 6-8 drops food coloring into the bottle.
Add about 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap into the bottle.
Gently swirl the bottle to mix the ingredients.
In a separate small cup, combine the warm water and the yeast together for about 30 seconds.
Pour the yeast water mixture into the bottle.
At first, your mixture will foam. As the reaction builds, thick elephant toothpaste will begin to pour out of the bottle. Get your elephant ready for clean teeth!
