Make your favorite, brightly colored eggs with this science activity for kids. Using a few ingredients from your kitchen, color your own eggs without a trip to the grocery store. With some exciting foaming and a textured variation on the eggshells, my kids thought this was the most exciting way to color eggs yet!
What you need:
Hard boiled white eggs
Vinegar
Baking soda
Food coloring
Paint brush or Q-Tips
What to do:
Add food coloring and water to the baking soda to create a tooth paste textured paste.
Using the paint brush, cover the hard boiled eggs with the paste.
Drizzle the vinegar over the eggs.
Let eggs dry.
Why it works:
Vinegar reacts with the baking soda causing a chemical reaction that creates carbon dioxide gas and leaves the color. The vinegar binds the food coloring to the eggshell creating a beautiful design.
