Summer is a time for allergies. Winter is a time for stuffy noses. Why can’t you taste your cookie if you have a stuffy nose?
What you need:
- Piece of potato
- Piece of apple
What you do:
- Cut a small piece of potato and a small piece of apple.
- Close your eyes and mix them up.
- Hold your nose and eat a bite of each.
Can you tell which is which?
Why it works
Your nose and mouth share the air you breathe. Taste is made up of the “smell” as well as the salt, bitter, and sweet taste buds in your mouth. Without smell, your brain is only getting half the clues and cannot tell the difference between a potato and an apple!
